Al Fahidi Fort, Al Fahidi Street, Duabi, United Arab Emirates
When you visit the Dubai Museum – housed in the Al Fahidi Fort which was built in 1787, the oldest existing building in the city – you’ll encounter colourful dioramas and exhibits that depict everyday life in the days before the discovery of oil. The museum, which was opened in 1971, features galleries that recreate historic Arab houses, mosques, Souks, date farms and desert and marine life. It also includes an exhibit on pearl diving, with sets of pearl merchants weights, scales and sieves. You can view artefacts from Africa and Asia, as well as local finds from several archaeological digs that date back to the third millennium BC.
Dubai Fort is situated at the south of Dubai Creek, at the Al Souk Al Kabir area which teems with vigorous trade and is close to the Ruler’s Court (the monarch’s divan). It was built back in 1787, about 200 years ago, as the premises of the monarch and a fort of defence, since it sat on the border of the urban Dubai at the time. Later on, this fort turned into an arsenal for artillery and weapons. It was also used as a prison for the outlaws. This fort was renovated during the reign of the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum. It was opened in 1971 (the year the federation was formed), to be an official museum that displays the history of Dubai and its original heritage. In 1995, another underground museum was established and added to the old fort.
The visitors of Dubai Museum “Al Fahidi Fort” have an opportunity to get rich, full and integral knowledge of the very old history of Dubai that interacted with different people and civilizations across history. Visitors will get acquainted with the different environments of urban and rural lives in Dubai, whether they are marine, coastal, desert, mountain or agricultural life. Rare authentic monuments, original samples, drawings and diagrams, audio and video media are scattered all over the wings of the museum. The museum consists of the monuments wing, which displays antique monuments such as pottery, weapons, tombs, buildings and urban communities. The wing of Dubai between the past and the present, the market in the 1950s wing, displays comprehensive examples reflecting the market atmosphere, vendors, shops and goods sold in those times. There is also the traditional home and masjid wing, the oasis wing, desert, story of the water and desert at night. There is also the astronomy and natural phenomena wing along with a sea wing that takes the visitor on a breathtaking tour to get to know shipbuilding and the manufacture of shipping equipment, the profession of pearl diving and the marine life on the floor of the Arabian Gulf. Also, there is the folklore wing, as well as the weapons and Old Dubai fortification wing. In the centre of Fahidi Fort lies a spacious yard that is used for displaying models of local boats and bamboo houses with their traditional furniture.
A visit to Dubai Museum “Al Fahidi Fort” offers an opportunity to get acquainted with the history of Dubai, which gives an impression that Dubai’s current development, modernism and distinction are only a continuation of a journey of a unique and distinguished civilization that was subjected to different cultures and people, as well as an example of the strong bond with Arabism and Islam. The comparison between old and modern Dubai, which are separated by a few number of years, show you the great, continuous efforts that led Dubai to its current state of progress and pioneering. It also consolidates the confidence that all that Dubai has become today is based on a deeply rooted civilization.

Burj Khalifa rises up from the sands of the desert to a total height of 2,723 feet (829.8 meters). The world’s tallest building is an incredible feat of engineering that took six years and 22 million man-hours to build.
Travel up to the observation deck on the 124th floor by purchasing a ticket for the At the Top Experience. The journey starts in the reception area where you are transported on a moving walkway to the base of the tower. During the ride, projections onto the walls depict the history of Dubai.
A high-speed elevator that travels at 30 feet (10 meters) per second takes you to the deck in less than 60 seconds. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer unobstructed views of the city, desert and the Persian Gulf. You can also step onto the outdoor terrace. Although you aren’t at the very top of the Burj Khalifa, you can still claim to have been on one of the highest outdoor observation decks in the world at 1,483 feet (452 meters).
Two floors below the observation deck is the upmarket At.mosphere, the world’s highest restaurant and lounge. Visit for lunch, dinner or afternoon tea. For details and to make a reservation, check the restaurant’s website.
Once you leave the Burj Khalifa, spend some time in its surrounding park. Within the 27-acre (11-hectare) landscape are a lake-edge promenade, forest grove, children’s play area and water features.
Situated in the downtown Burj area of Dubai, Burj Khalifa is easily accessible by metro and bus. There is also parking for more than 14,000 vehicles at Dubai Mall, which is adjacent to the Burj Khalifa.
At the Top Experience is open every day. The observation deck is wheelchair accessible.
Dubai Creek, Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Dubai Creek is the natural seawater inlet from the Arabian Gulf that divides the city in two. On the northeast side is Deira Dubai and on the southwest, Bur Dubai. The creek has played a major role in Dubai’s history, originally facilitating trade with India and Africa and providing safe haven for trading ships.
There are several ways to explore the creek. Travel along the water in traditional style on an abra, or water taxi. These small, motorized wooden boats are a cheap way to get around and are the means many workers use to commute from one side of the creek to the other.
You’ll find designated abra stations at various locations along the waterway with boats departing every few minutes every day of the week. They typically slip away when there are around 20 passengers. There are no tickets; you just pay on board. You can even charter an abra for yourself.
Another way to view the creek is on a traditional dhow. You can find these tour boats on the Deira side and they offer day and night cruises.
Observe the day-to-day activity on the creek as abras, yachts and modern boats are loaded and unloaded. Make sure you bring a camera with you as the city skyline looks superb from the waterfront, especially when the buildings are bathed in bright sunlight.
Notice the distinct architectural differences between the two sides of the creek. The Bur Dubai side is the older part of the city with traditional Middle Eastern architecture. Deira Dubai is more modern and home to many skyscrapers.
Explore the area on foot along the promenades. These pretty, paved walkways are well-lit at night allowing for a pleasant evening stroll.
At the upper end of the creek is the Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary. It covers an area of 1,532 acres (620 hectares) of wetlands, mudflats, lagoons and pools. Here you may be able to see several species of water birds including plovers, curlews and gulls.

Cosmetic dentistry focuses on improving the appearance of one’s smile instead of promoting good oral hygiene like other dental procedures. There are options to make your teeth more aesthetically pleasing, many of which do not require patients to be sedated or the consultation of a surgeon. One of the simplest is tooth whitening. This can be done at home with an over-the-counter kit. If the staining on the enamel is excessive, another choice is custom veneers. Made of composite or porcelain, these are bonded to the enamel. Periodontal disease affects the gum and the bones supporting the teeth. If left untreated, it can lead to tooth loss. If the disease is caught early, a filling may be enough to correct any damage. One way to replace any lost teeth is to fill the gap with dental bridges. These false teeth are attached to crowns, which are bonded to the real teeth on either side. Another option is tooth implants. This process uses titanium root-shaped pieces implanted into the jaw to replace the missing teeth. If the tooth decay or loss is massive, dentures may be suggested. Dentures are custom-made to fit securely inside one’s mouth and work just as regular teeth would. For crooked teeth, braces are commonly chosen, especially for children. Dental contouring can be used for uneven teeth. While not all processes require patients to be sedated, you may still experience some pain during or after the procedure. Because the focus is to restore the appearance of your smile, most insurance plans do not cover cosmetic dental procedures. The best way to avoid out-of-pocket costs on cosmetic dentistry is to teach the importance of oral hygiene to your family. While many dental problems can be fixed by modern techniques, it is best to take care of your teeth.

Calvin Richard Klein is an American fashion designer who launched the company that would later become Calvin Klein Inc., in 1968. In addition to clothing, he also has given his name to a range of perfumes, watches, and jewelry.
Calvin Klein started his fashion line in New York in the late 1960s. He started his brand by designing, and making coats. This business venture did well for him, and so he ventured into other products and services. Most notably, he is credited for starting the designer jean craze that started in the late 1970s, and expanded into the early 1990s. He was a pioneer of taking an article of clothing that was associated with the most casual of dress, cowboys, and gangs, and turned blue jeans into an article that the most hip and upscale people just had to have.
What he did was create a premium brand of blue jeans that were made from the most premium blend of denim. The jeans had a high cut that showcased the flat stomachs and bottoms that were fashionable body types of that time. The legs had straight and long tailoring. The jeans were accentuated with a cotton label embroidered with the Calvin Klein logo on the back of them. While the jeans got good press on their own, the jeans became legendary when the then 15 year old Brooke Shields, the premier teenaged model and actress, began to wear them in ad campaigns. Brooke had height, beauty, and sophistication that was well beyond her 15 years. At the same time, she was innocent. Calvin Klein used the natural contradictions that she exuded in his national ad campaigns for his jeans. She is credited for saying “Nothing comes between me and my Calvins”. These ads caused a bit of a scandal, because they were suggestive and enticing. Having said that, owning a pair of Calvin Klein jeans were a status symbol of those times.
Another actor who built his career with the Calvin Klein brand, is Mark Wahlberg. In the early 1990s, Mark was a rapper known as Marky Mark. He was in his early 20s at the time, and he was very hip and physically developed. Calvin used Mark as a model on the runway, and in his ad campaigns for his men’s cotton boxers. The ad campaign was a raging success. Young men wore their Calvin Klein labeled boxers exposed as a fashion statement. Marky Mark very shortly became Mark Wahlberg, “A” list actor.
Another model who built her career with the Calvin Klein brand, is Kate Moss. In the mid 1990s, Calvin Klein developed a unisex cologne, called CK one. This product was marketed as a scent that both hip and young men and women could wear. The ad campaign featured a young Kate Moss. Kate single handedly brought about the “waif” look that was very popular on the runways in the mid to late 1990s.
Calvin Klein produces sportswear, men’s undergarments, and a host of legendary perfumes and colognes, such as Obsession, Eternity for men and women, Escape, and Euphoria. There are several versions of each of these, and of course, CK One, with its many different versions. The Calvin Klein brand shows no sign of slowing down, and continues to be a top American brand with all of its products.
