Ginter Bar InterContinental Hotel Dubai Marina
Ginter Bar InterContinental Hotel Dubai Marina – We invite you to enjoy Dubai’s biggest selection of fine gin, a wide range of cocktails and a selection of exclusive cheese, cold cuts and variety of sharing platters. Gisnter is the perfect place to have a pleasant evening surrounded by a range of light to groovy music.
With every new hotel comes new bars. So when we heard that the newly opened InterContinental Dubai Marina was launching yet another venue (the hotel already houses trendy grape spot YNOT Kitchen & Bar), we were excited to say the least. Specialising in juniper-based drinks, Ginter has 24 different types to choose from, including brands from the UK, America and Spain.
The bar is hidden away behind a heavy stone door in a corner of the hotel, with only a small sign to indicate its presence. Guests have to walk through the main entrance and follow signs down a long corridor to access it – upon arrival, it’s hard not to feel as though the bar was installed to fill an architectural oversight).
In keeping with the hotels artistic theme, Ginter’s decor is simple, but a touch quirky, with abstract artworks adorning the walls. While it’s easy on the eye and has a cool and contemporary vibe, the spot feels less like a bar and more like an extension of the hotel lobby. Low tables and chairs are dotted around the room and due to their size, they take up the majority of the space. High ceilings and harsh lighting also give it an atmosphere of an art gallery or museum.
On our weekend visit, we were the only customers there. In fact, staff seemed to be grateful to see us, which meant service was friendly and efficient. We were given a selection of sweet nuts before our drinks arrived, along with a bowl of tomatoes, which we found quite odd, but still, we were happy to accept.
When we saw that the average juniper drink costs from Dhs75 with prices going all the way up to Dhs110, we got the impression that staff were perhaps trying to ‘sweeten us up’ to prepare us for the hefty prices. Juniper beverage-lovers will no doubt be in their element with choices of citrus, spiced, herbal and floral mixes on offer. We tried a pink one, which was served in a fishbowl-like glass, with berry-infused ice cubes. Our buddy chose a spiced and herb version, served with mint leaves and fresh lemon juice. Both were extremely refreshing with a well-balanced flavour.
Ginter is ideally suited to connoisseurs looking to try something new, but for those who prefer a happy hour or getting value for their money, you may want to look elsewhere.
