Al Mafraq Hospital
Mafraq Hospital is 500-bed tertiary hospital situated 35 kilometers from the city of Abu Dhabi.
Al Mafraq was commissioned by Ministry of Health in 1983 and serves as a general hospital for the city of Abu Dhabi and as a referral center for certain clinic specialties for the whole of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Mafraq Hospital receives more than 1000 outpatients per day on an average. About 500 operations are performed by the surgical department every month.
The clinical departments in the hospital include Neurology, Endocrinology, Gastroentrology, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, and Urology. The non-clinical departments include the Radiology Department, equipped with Computerized Topography and Digital subtraction angiography. The Laboratories are also equipped with most modern amenities.
Among the tertiary facilities in the hospital are Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery, Renal Transplantation, Oncology Services, Burns Unit, Plastic Surgery, and Neonatology. The Cardiology Department performs all diagnostic and therapeutic invasive procedures, including Intra-Coronary Stent Implantation and Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty.
There is a Medical Research Institute attached to the hospital, which collaborates closely with faculty of Medicine on several research projects on a regular basis. The hospital is recognized by Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians of the UK for post graduate training.
