Who are the owners of Fine Hygienic Paper Company?

Fine is wholly-owned by Nuqul Group, an internationally renowned conglomerate of 31 regional and global companies. The Group is currently involved in a variety of sectors including construction, stationery, automotive, packaging and printing, converting and paper mills, and many others, and exports its products to over 45 markets worldwide. When was Fine established?

Fine was established in March 1958 by prominent businessman Elia Nuqul with the aim of providing quality hygienic paper products. We started out with only one toilet paper roll machine in Souk Al Sukkar, Jordan, but in 1962. In August that same year we built our first factory in Jordan and started expanding almost immediately.

Fine’s first foray into regional export markets began in the early 1960s with Saudi Arabia before steadily expanding to Egypt, Lebanon, U.A.E., Sudan, Algeria and Morocco. Today, Fine is an international flagship brand for an extensive range of hygienic paper products, with growing export markets across the Middle East, Africa and Europe.

In which countries does Fine operate?

We have strategically-located regional offices in Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Iran, Morocco, the United Arab Emirates, Algeria, Lebanon, and Sudan, as well as four paper mills in Jordan and Egypt, and more than ten converting plants distributed all over the region. Through our offices, we cater to an extensive export market that covers the Middle East, Africa and Europe.

Why Fine does not use recycled paper for its products?

We don’t really believe in recycling for tissues, because recycling waste paper into hygienic tissue paper is considered “upcycling” and is neither environmentally friendly nor financially feasible. Upcycling is the attempt to create a higher quality product from low quality input; it takes large amounts of energy, chemicals, water and capital, and has low yields. Only 60-65% of the input used in upcycling waste paper into tissue paper becomes a product, while the rest becomes sludge that can cause environmental damage.

How involved is Fine in supporting environmental issues?

Fine holds the ISO 14000 certification and adopts environmentally sustainable production practices. Some of these focus on using energy efficiently, recycling and decontaminating effluent water, distributing waste material to be reused by other industries, and using fully recyclable packaging for all our products.

We only utilize virgin pulp that comes from well-managed woodlands to combat deforestation. For every tree we use, we plant five trees to make sure that our woodlands are not only sustained, but also expanded. Each one of our tissue mills is certified as sustainable by third parties such as the Forest Stewardship Council. Several of our CSR activities are also centered on environmental initiatives that promote awareness on environmental issues and good eco-friendly practices.
