Stepping Stones Medical Center in Dubai Health Care City

Founded in 2001, Stepping Stones is an internationally recognized organization that utilizes evidenced-based practices to treat and educate individuals diagnosed across various areas of developmental and learning difficulties such as Pervasive Development Disorders/Autism Spectrum Disorders, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorders (ADD/ADHD), Downs Syndrome, Speech & Language Disorders, Sensory Integration Dysfunctions/Disorders and other related areas of need. Our goal for each individual is a more effective, independent and improved quality of life.

We have been and are guided by the principle that “the child’s needs and best interests come first.” Profits, personalities and other variables must be secondary in our mission. By keeping our clients’ needs and best interests as our number one priority, all else will follow.

A.S.P.I.R.E Vocational & Transitioning Program

The A.S.P.I.R.E Vocational & Transitioning Program is a one of its kind, transitioning service for teenagers and young adults with disabilities, currently housed in the Stepping Stones office in Dubai Healthcare City. The curriculum is centered around providing life skills to individuals with disabilities, keeping in mind their individual needs, abilities and interests.

In our service, A.S.P.I.R.E. stands for Achieving Strengths, Potential, Independence and Readiness for Employment. Simply put, our program provides best the possible foundation for an independent, hopeful and positive future for students with disabilities. This is achieved by providing young adults and their families with the skills, knowledge and experience to achieve the highest possible quality of life available to them, a life where they are safe, independent and integrated into their community.

Range of services provided include either the full-time program or 1:1 afternoon sessions designed to cater to individual clients. The curriculum is designed to cover a wide range of skills required for everyday living, including those related to self-care, functional academics, school readiness, employment and community participation. Instructional teaching employs the use of the Life Centered Education Curriculum (LCE) as a foundation, which provides a detailed framework of measurable, achievable goals that can be tailored to meet the unique goals of each student.

In addition to classroom education, a major part of learning occurs outside in the community – which enables students to exert their independence and generalize the concepts taught in class. Furthermore, every effort is made to carry over this learning to the home environment, with the help of continuous support & training to parents/caregivers. Such efforts result in the all-round growth and development of our clients.

We have recently opened doors for applications to our A.S.P.I.R.E. Teen Transition Summer Program, and for the full-time Program starting September 2015.

Applied Behavior Analysis

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is the science of controlling and predicting human behavior. The main focus of ABA involves the observable relationship of behavior to the environment. By functionally assessing the relationship between a targeted behavior and the environment, the methods of ABA can be used to change that behavior.

Research shows that ABA-based interventions are amongst best practices for treating people with developmental disabilities, most notably Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). ABA is one of the key underlying principles of behavior treatment utilized at Stepping Stones where we utilize evidenced-based practices and treatment intervention with such populations.
